Take one major corporate Australian company and one deceitful employee and you’ve got the makings of one very elaborate work cover investigation case… in fact, when it comes to commercial work cover cases, this one’s an absolute doozy.
It started off when one of our clients from Sydney, New South Wales – a major corporate conglomerate – enlisted our help to follow up on a work cover claim made by one of their employees. For the purpose of this article and to protect the privacy of all involved, we will refer to the employee as Samantha Cross.
Samantha reported a serious back injury which took place whilst she was working with our client so she immediately submitted an official work cover claim. Soon thereafter the claim was approved and Ms Cross received a huge six-figure payout from the company and her usual role within the company was revoked and Ms Cross was allocated to another department within the company whereby she could continue to carry out light duties.
Time passed and Samantha was continuing to claim several work cover benefits, however, when it came time for Samantha’s much-awaited operation, she suddenly decided to leave the company and continually postponed the long-awaited medical procedure. This sparked huge warning bells and the company decided to investigate Ms Cross’s work claim further. That’s where we came into the picture.
Our investigation not only uncovered that Ms Cross had indeed been misleading the company with a false work cover claim but via the correct investigative methods and lawful techniques, we were able to source the necessary permissible evidence to prove it. What does this mean? It means that when the case went to court, Samantha Cross was found guilty and legally required to return all the paid funds back to her employer – our client.
The case was a huge success for our client and meant that they could recover all financial losses that had been previously made to Ms Cross.
